Tales of a college student.

Hi there!

So its that time in the semester where we do exams. It comes with mixed feelings on a whole as you could imagine. Many of us are warned out from all the activities we’d been doing throughout the semester ofcourse that includes hanging out with you guys; but that part was the fun part. Here’s the catch though, idearly this is when we should be reading probably our hardest and all but we are just so tired and want to break free.

For some of us this is when for some reason we just want to catch up with friends, go on crazy thoughtless endeavours and just let ourselvsles go. In fact, at this point its the brain has shut down.

Am in my room now, just been reading for my radio drama exam paper. While I was innocently will on to read and master my concepts, it starts to rain real heavily, with a vegence. What am I supposed to do….I can literary hear my bed calling out….it gets harder every passing second..

Anyways I need to run, go catch up on whatever it is I will be doing, enjoy the rest of your day.

“THE CITY FOR ALL”

In Kampala there’s no hurry, take your time. In fact, it is said that when one sets an appointment then it’s customary to add an extra hour to the initially agreed time. It’s so amazing, when one takes a walk through the city, it’s the happy faces, the yawn of a hungry man, yellings from conductors calling out to the people to board their taxis. Shops opening up, the roads swamped with vehicles. A cripple rushing through the street. As long as the sun is up, the city is running. At city square we find multiple malls, my personal favorite is Mutaasa building. It caters for all, there’s all kinds of businesses, right from a lady selling ground nuts to someone selling bridal gowns. It sounds weird but in Kampala it doesn’t matter what you have or who you are, the sky is the limit.

The drivers on the other hand are a case to look into. No one knows the rules anymore, it’s how fast can I get to my destination and the shortest time possible would be appreciated. This is true especially since in Uganda one does not have to actually have gone to driving school or even have trained at all to get a drivers’ license. Almost anything can be paid for with cash. It’s crazy but it’s what is. The more disciplined drivers take longer hours to get to where they are going; mostly because even when they stick to the right lane, the poor road users keep over lapping on shoulders and cause deadlocks.

The funniest part is that in Kampala, there’s a particular category of persons who stand at the various stages to either rob others or even de-tooth the taxi conductors who have labored all day to make. This is done indirectly through charging them stage fees which is un called for because ideally the stage is free space for every citizen of Uganda.

Despite all this fracas, Kampala has been cleaned up, there’s almost no litter these days. Thanks to Kampala City Council Authority, multiple dustbins have been stationed at certain locations which has greatly improved on garbage disposal. So the place looks good.

Who we are is as a result of our speech.

Clichés as it appears, words are an essential aspect of life that we choose to ignore. We ignore these and yet they have such a great effect on what we are or what we become as time goes on in life.

Tell me this: have you ever been hurt by what someone said to you? Or have you ever been encouraged by what someone said? This is true for everyone and what you need to do now is to allow yourself to relive that moment and remember exactly how it felt. Only then can you appreciate the power of what we say.

A wise man once said that words are like containers filled with something. Guess what you determine the contents in your container, take charge. Why should you take charge? Because you are measured by your words, you obtain your reputation by your words in short be sure to say the right words at the right time.

You might just change your fate.

You have only one life to live: its not a Rehearsal.

Hope you slept well last night, I know I didn’t but that’s for another day. For now all I can tell you is to, spend more time with the people that celebrate you and less with the ones that despise you.

Here’s why its preferable: those that celebrate you appreciate you and more often than not love you so let’s say that they have your best interest at heart.
The ones that despise you, stay away because they only bring your dreams down. Its true that they are important in life, mostly because you learn from them & sometimes what they say to you could make you a better person. So look out for but don’t keep them close, they will surely hurt you.

A wise lady once said that sometimes all we have are great memories to hold on to but the friendships may not last as long as we would have loved them to.

Love, when that happens don’t be afraid, pick yourself up, dust your feet and find another door that welcomes you. You live only once. Don’t waste time trying to please another because you want them to accept you.

Don’t forget to embrace change. Sometimes its painful, heck most times it is painful but you know what? It means your growing up and part of growing up is out growing certain relationships and personalities in your life. They have served their purpose and now its time for you and them to move on.
Hope your day turns out great, I know mine will.
