Eating Habits of Non-Residents at UCU Main Campus

Recently, it has come to the attention of the Uganda Christian University Community that the students residing in hostels have irregularly unhealthy eating patterns. Most of them have actually ended up in hospitals, a consequence to the foods or snacks they choose to consume in the name of feeding.

For many of these students, junk is the order of the day. This is commonly a result of junk foods being generally cheaper than the healthy balanced diet they have known to eat as taught to the during the Health and Wholeness classes offered at the university. They feed on things such as chips and sausages and the crown of all being rolex for its convenience both in price (she. 1,500) and period of preparation.

The other issue is that the environment in which some of these foods are prepared is alarming. the cooking oil used is dark in color meaning that it has been recycled which is a very dangerous thing to consume.lolo

It is therefore a concern that such feeding patterns may affect the students’ ability to focus and be productive in class. As the saying goes,”Gavamukulya“, food is enriching to the body and the body needs food in certain quantities at given intervals to work appropriately notwithstanding the brain. When students take ill as a result of poor feeding, then they are un able to attend classes or in some instances are unable to foci in class as the brain is deprived.

Being as it were that non-residents fend for themselves, it is also true that some of them live on empty stomachs. for some it is because they failed to plan for their little finances while for others it is generally the absence of resources to acquire food to eat.
